LOOSE DOGS: Security has been receiving a lot of complaints about loose dogs. Our Redbook states: No Animals shall be regularly kept or maintained on any lot in Lake Summerset except the usual household pets and these pets must not be allowed to roam. No pets are permitted in the Lodge or in the pool and beach areas and all pets in other public areas must be on a leash. All stray pets should be reported to the LSA office or security gate. If you are walking your pet, you must make sure that is on a leash. Also, if you encounter another person with a pet on a leash try to avoid getting near the other persons pet. We have had several incidents where dogs have attacked each other.

THEFTS: The last part of July and the first part of August, we had a few thefts. Taken from a home on Pier Drive were credit cards, checks and other items. Other thefts included GPS units and loose change taken from unlocked vehicles, which were on Butternut Bend, Lake Summerset Road on the north side of the lake. We also had mail taken from mailboxes on Delburne and Westmore. Most of the mail was recovered and returned to owners.

To deter thefts of mail from Mailboxes: Do not leave mail in your box overnight. If you cannot get your mail before dark ask a neighbor to get it for you, or have your mail held for that day at the post office.
Do not put outgoing mail in your box the night before pick up. If you are leaving and have to mail something put it in the outside box at the post office.

VANDALISM: There were vandalisms to mailboxes on Knoll wood and Lake Summerset Road on the south side of the lake in August. Several mailboxes were pulled out of the ground and some were broken.
You are encouraged if this happens to you to be sure to notify the appropriate Sheriffs Department.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR THEFTS from Vehicles/Boats:

  • Make sure you take out of your vehicle/boat anything of value
  • If you must leave items in car or boat, make sure your lot number is on them and they are hidden from view.
  • Keep your vehicles locked.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR THEFTS in your home:

  • Lock all doors and windows no matter how briefly you’ll be out of the house
  • Do not leave notes on your door or window. (Such as: Gone, will be home at 2:30,or Gone, key is under the rock.) These notes tell thieves you are gone and they can access your home
  • If you are going to out of the house for a short time, leave a television or radio on to create a sense of activity and presence
  • If you are going to be away for a longer time, such as a vacation, take a few simple precautions to keep your home from looking empty. Ask a neighbor to collect your mail or have post office hold your mail and keep the door and porch clear of delivery notices, newspapers and fliers. Pick up several electric timers at the local discount store, and use them to turn, lights, a television or radios on and off at various times during the day and evening. Let your neighbors and security know how to reach you in case there’s an emergency.
  • Marking your valuable personal property won’t prevent it from being stolen, but it will help you get it back if it is found. Engrave your lot number on items in a hidden area. Engravers can be checked out from the Security Chief. Photographing the item with your engraved lot number will help in retrieve your items from the police if they are recovered and will aid in making an insurance claim if they aren’t.

It doesn’t take much to discourage a burglar. He succeeds on opportunity, and if your home doesn’t offer a good opportunity, he’ll move on to one that does.

UNLICENSED MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTIONS:

During the busy Holiday Weekends and Special Event days we do not have time to inspect these vehicles. Please try to get your vehicle inspection before or after the holiday.

REDBOOK: Whether you are new to Lake Summerset or have been here for a while, please take the time to read the Lake Summerset Association Rules and Regulations REDBOOK. Security enforces the rules that are in this book. If you do not have a Redbook, they are available at the LSA Office or the Main Gate.

If you have any questions concerning any subject in this article, feel free to call the security department at 248-2194 extension 224 and ask for Janet.

The security guard house is open 7 days a week 24 hours a day to report any complaints or suspicious activity. The emergency number is 248-2778.
